A ring should settle on the hand without argument. Firm at the base of the finger, free enough to turn.
Lay it flat. Measure straight across the empty middle, at its widest.
Wrap a thin strip of paper around the base of the finger, snug but not tight. Mark where it overlaps and measure the length.
